Business Analyst

The Army has come to Austin!  The Army Futures Command headquarters has settled in the center of innovation in Austin TX and GXM is part of it.  The Command’s mission is to lead continuous transformation of Army modernization in order to provide future warfighters with the concepts, capabilities and organizational structures they need to dominate a future battlefield. GXM is looking for a talented, motivated and dedicated Business Analyst to contribute to this mission.

The candidate that fills this position will be part of a larger Knowledge Management team supporting existing client work in the evaluation, analysis and documentation of existing processes as well as suggestions for enhancements of processes and workflows to improve the Command’s battle rhythm. The successful candidate is a specialized analyst who works with components of the Command to break down business processes into specific steps. This helps the Command understand and improve business processes. Business analysts work on projects designed to improve quality, reduce errors and design new business processes. They work with management, operators, work teams, customers and suppliers to gather and analyze information and make recommendations for process improvement.  This position will also assist in larger Knowledge Management and Content/Collaboration activities with the team and the client. The successful candidate will work with business teams and the IT Department to find the best way to design new processes and solve process-related problems. 

The candidate must be a US Citizen and possess technical acuity and experience with collaboration and knowledge management systems. Duties require the individual to work onsite, full-time 5 days a week in Austin, Texas and travel from time to time to support projects and government activities.

What you’ll do:

The successful candidate will be able to draw inferences from process details and link those inferences to the big picture by considering business objectives in identifying process improvements. The Business Analyst will have the ability to present “As Is” Enterprise Data Modeling for all Functions, Inputs, Outputs, Outcomes and perform data gap analysis to produce a ‘To Be’ Data Model for Analytical Data Driven Decision Making. As such, the Business Analyst will have the ability to structure a large amount of information within a process framework.

This will involve mapping existing processes and designing improved ones. One of the tasks of the Business Analyst will be to interpret business requirements for IT staff. As a Business Analyst, you will often find yourself holding meetings, researching processes, collecting data, analyzing information and performing related tasks.

Business Analysts have knowledge of process mapping and business process reengineering (BPR) and business process improvement (BPI) techniques and processes. The successful candidate will analyze business processes and workflows with the objective of finding out how they can be improved or automated. They facilitate process workshops, after which they document any information elicited using process maps and business requirements documents. The Business Analyst will also be involved in documenting procedures and presenting new process designs to stakeholders for discussion.

What you need to have:

  • Excellent communication and interviewing skills
  • Proficient in the use of analytic tools such as spreadsheets, flow-charting and process diagramming
  • Ability to manage process change
  • Enterprise architecture principles and techniques
  • Educate business users responsible for managing and operating business processes
  • Monitor, measure and provide feedback on process performance
  • Facilitate process workshops that involve eliciting process requirements and liaising with users
  • Apply your knowledge of business process modelling notations (BPMN, EPC, BPEL) to documenting processes
  • Demonstrate familiarity with ERP, BPM, CRM and/or BI tools
  • Be able to see the big picture, understand project objectives and be able to apply your understanding of how processes should work to operational improvement initiatives
  • Ten years of experience with operations, computer science or a business background
  • Five years of demonstrable process improvement experience
  • BA/BS in Business, management, operations or other related IT degrees


  • Familiarity with DoD organizations
  • Current Secret or higher security clearance
  • An understanding of protocols like SOAP, WSDL, XML and other key protocols
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification, BPM Certification or BA Certification
